After being in a heterosexual relationship with my mom for 17 years, my dad came out as gay to one and all when I was eleven years old. He now lives happily with his partner and my mom with hers, and everyone gets along fine. I’m very lucky to have such a large, joyful family, and I’m proud that my parents were able to accept one another’s choices with such grace. They decided to rejoice in the changing nature of their relationship and to move forward towards their true selves. It just goes to show that it’s never too late to be who you are, and that everyone is happier around you when you are at your best and most genuine.
I gave one pair of United Rings to my mom and her husband at their anniversary and another pair to my dad and his husband at theirs. As huge supporters of HRC, all parties absolutely adored the gift. To me, the rings symbolize not only the love and unity between each pair of soul mates. I feel that the watch link band represents the connectedness of the four of them as the best family anyone could ask for. (Posted on 7/9/12)
